Hammond 291AEX Heaters Central Tap
« am: 29.07.2020 22:20 »
Hallo

Geordie

Hi

I am building the 5F1 kit. I have opted for the above Power Transformer which has a center tap on the heaters.

My question is should I

Option 1

Ignore the heater centre tap on the  the 291AEX and create a virtual centre tap as shown in schematic and layout. I presume i would  just tape off the center tap as  it is not being used and NOT to connect the heater center tap  to ground ).

Option 2

Connect Heater CT from 291 AEX  to the cathode of 6V6 and ignore virtual Tap.

Option 3

Connect Heater  CT from 291 AEX  to the cathode on  6V6 with 100hm resistor and ignore the  virtual Tap.

I am keen to keep any hum to the minimum.

Any help as to which would be the best option. Or any other suggestion

 would be greatfully appreciated.

Geordie

Hallo Stephan

Prost

Hi Stephan

Thanks for your response. My favourite was option 2 followed by option 3.

Option 2 seems to be popular with many builders on different amp building forums.

Cheers

Mark

"Prost

Google translate never fails to amuse  ;D

Btw, I would also suggest option 2. No need to worry about an artificial center-tap if there's an actual center-tap.
