Guten Nachmittag allerseits,

A few pointers.
First of  all you need to look into what´s in english called lead dress. The way your wiring is put down simply won´t do.

Second.
If i understand you correctly you measure bias voltage under load? Bias changes as you start leaning into the amp? Well,if that´s the case..it´s supposed to do that.
As we stimulate g1 of the powertubes, and this  is where our negative bias voltage is presented as well, bias will indeed change.

Guten Morgen,

Was sagt denn der Ossi dazu? Hast du ihn befragt?

No offense but i´m still sitting here confused.?
Were we talking negative bias voltage or bias as in anode loss? Because if anode loss that is supposed to jump all over the place as you play the amplifier.

Bias voltage is indeed presented to point g1 of the powertubes. So is the actual signal. This g1 is the tubes control grid, and as the AC voltage of the signal starts to work its way towards it bias/loss is supposed to shift all over. Otherwise the tube, and hence the amp, simply won´t work.

...maybe he is probing quiescent current  - at idle (before pounding the amp) - at idle (after a period of playin at higher volumes)

Wirklich 220K?

Auch ein berechtigter Vorschlag! Bitte auch Biaspoti berücksichtigen!

Viel Erfolg!

Might be,but in that case we´re basically talking incorrect measuring.

As i understood it this was a issue as he cracked the gainpots of the preamp open, and if so it in fact is besides the point if he played the amp or not.
If it stays calm as far as anodeloss in idle with the pots closed and then goes rampant as a front end pot is cracked open beyond a given point, then we have an issue that stems from the preamp/PI. Not the actual powertubes and their bias setting.

It is also a matter of that actual negative bias voltage will to an extent follow presented signal.

Something you´re as aware of as I.

Racing,

I did measure the negative Bias Volatage. It stays like it should -51V...Whatever the GainVolume Pot is crancked or not!

raffa

@ Raffa.
Ok.
In that case start by pulling the phaseinverter tube out of there and set bias for the powertubes. With the PI tube out there´s no real chance of signal being presented to g1 and hence you will have a stable condition at that point rendering it possible to set powertube bias regardless of what the front end/PI is up to.

Albeit crude  this actually works to a degree when trying to figure out where the oscillation stems from. Just yank a tube at a time until it goes away.

Will report! :-)

Hallo raffa,

Jochen

@ Raffa.
All good.
If i understand you correctly what we have at hand here is an oscillation that stems from the preamp or phaseinverter.?

In that case, not to come down on your build but ment as constructive critisism, you need to look into the lead dress of the amp. Simply pinpointing the actual oscillation will in that case only be half the answer.

There are "do´s and don´ts" when building an amp and attention to lead dress is certainly one of them.
